LITERARY CORNER
We make no apologies for featuring Julie Shorter's book "Cox and Shoppers" for a second year. We don't think it has had anywhere near the exposure it deserves and, we hear, a sequel may be on its way. "Cox and Shoppers"is set in and around Henley at the time of the Regatta, it even includes the first known literary reference to Regatta Radio! It is a thoroughly engaging story of two close friends at slightly different stages in their lives. Each is confronted by the romantic dilemas that life throws up and the story revolves how these problems are confronted or circumvented. It is a very modern tale with two likeable characters that most people will be able to relate to. It's light hearted and essentially uplifting, you'll race through and it's a joy to read and highly recommended. Click on the picture to go to Amazon to buy the book. Give it a go you won't be disappointed.
Something Wicked, a Lord Edward Corinth and Verity Browne Murder Mystery by David Roberts published 25th October 2007. Our Honorary Literary Correspondent Caroline Thomas writes "Murders in Henley, whatever next? but don't be anxious this is 1938 and old Etonian sleuth Lord Edward Corinth and his journalist fiancée Verity Browne are on hand to solve the case. Much of the action takes place in and around Henley at Regatta time.
Surely an oarsman can't be involved? Will there be violence in Stewards' or at Phyllis Court?
This is a cracking tale, full of precise period detail and with fictional and real characters mixing to give a wonderful blend of history and mystery.
A recommended read after the excitement of this years Regatta is over. Available at Amazon by .
